A pair of SWC boys' hoops games went to overtime on January 21, and another was decided by two points in regulation by a team that went to double OT in a non-conference clash the day before.
Weston defeated Stratford 59-55. Jake Jones (22 points), Alex Olsen (16), Josh Handel (11) led the offense. Clutch rebounds and free throws from Evan Levine (five points) in OT.
Jones had seven rebounds and three steals. Levine collected seven rebounds. Handel had five assists. Mickey Stack grabbed 10 rebounds and had three assists. Olsen had rebounds and two steals.
The Trojans overcome a last-second shot by Stratford's Jayquan Kirkland to force overtime. Stratford led Weston 22-20 at halftime, but the Trojans caught fire in the third scoring 18. In the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Weston was leading by three when Kirkland missed his initial attempt at tying the game but he received the offensive rebound and hit a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
Both teams fought hard in overtime but clutch rebounds and free throws from Levine and Nate Slump sealed the victory for Weston. The Trojans extended their winning streak to four games with an overall 5-5 record and 3-0 in league play.
Stratford got 18 from Joe August, 16 from Brady Knorr and 13 from Kirkland.
Bunnell edged Notre Dame 74-71 in another OT battle. Kevin Lanham scored 21 points and Tiyrone Coleman and Jaden McDowell each scored 16.
Newtown beat Joel Barlow 55-53 the day after a double overtime 78-73 win at Torrington. Barlow outscored NHS 16-10 in the final quarter but couldn't complete the comeback. Riley Ward and Tyson Mobley both scored 12 and Joe McCray and Jack Petersen each had 10 in the win.
