Weston's Wild Win Highlights Exciting Night Of Football

In a high scoring football battle for the ages, Weston outlasted Masuk 62-41 on November 15.


Basketball anybody?


On a chilly night the offenses certainly heated up and the Trojans and Panthers put up a hoops score. In end, the Trojans moved a big step closer to a state playoff berth, making their Turkey Day game versus Joel Barlow ultra important.


Weston quarterback James Goetz completed nine of 13 pass attempts, threw four touchdown passes, ran for another TD, and rushed 14 times for 129 yards.


Brendan Sawyer carried the ball five times for 95 yards scored a TD on a fake punt, and had three receptions for 55 yards and another score. Jack Sawyer had four receptions for 73 yards and a TD. John Cassol had a 29-yard TD reception. Hayden Lawrence hauled in a 30-yard touchdown catch. Tyler Bower had 18 carries for 75 yards.


Brendan Sawyer had an interception and Dom Tarantino returned a pick for a score. Phoenix Parker made eight extra point attempts.


*Newtown downed Barlow 44-10. James Knox had his first career TD on a fumble return, and quarterbacks Brandon Lombardo and Jack Street both threw for a pair of scores to lead the Nighthawks. Barlow kept it close early, and trailed just 10-7 midway through the second quarter. QB Brett Hugo rushed for a score and Michael Puglio booted a line drive 36-yard field goal that glanced off the cross bar and over.


* Notre Dame-Fairfield got by Bethel 34-28. Bethel's Nick Crouse scored four touchdowns to keep the game close for the Wildcats.


*Bunnell bested Brookfield 32-24.


*In the defensive game of the week, New Milford doubled up Pomperaug 12-6.


*New Fairfield blanked Stratford 41-0.
