The Weston High girls' swimming and diving team made another big splash, winning its fifth consecutive South-West Conference championship — the swimming events were held at Masuk on November 9 after the diving competition took place at Pomperaug on November 5.
The Trojans scored 609 points. Pomperaug was second with 357, Newtown third with 350, Brookfield fourth with 2623, Immaculate-Bethel fifth with 256, Masuk sixth with 240.5, New Milford seventh with 199, Barlow eighth with 169, Bunnell ninth with 133.5, New Fairfield 10th with 67 and Stratford 11th with 52.
Weston's 200 yard medley relay team of Sarah Franco, Nicole Linell, Bella Gary and Kate Linell was first in 1:50.93.
New Milford's Sarah Falder was first in the 200 freestyle race, finishing in 1:57.21, narrowly edging Masuk's Liz Stoelzel (1:57.50) and Weston's Ally Bradley (1:57.67). Newtown was fourth and fifth as Martha Seaver and Shayna Millard had times of 2:02.53 and 2:02.61.
Bella and Franco gave Weston a one-two finish in the 200 individual medley race with times of 2:07.57 and 2:11.17. Brookfield's Katie Sharkey came in third in 2:15.93. Pomperaug's Emily Strickland came in fourth in 2:16.99, and Immaculate-Bethel's Devin McGovern was fifth in 2:18.53.
In the 50 free, Masuk's Stoelzel was first in 24.35, followed by Weston's Franco in 24.79, Masuk's Eva Helmke in 24.79, Barlow's Danae O'Dean in 25.09 and Newtown's Caroline Mahoney in 25.25.
Weston's Elisabeth Katz won the diving competition with a score of 422.15. Brookfield earned second and third as Emma Gravgaard and Mykayla Lavery had scores of 404.55 and 338.25. New Milford's Sarah Beck came in fourth with a score of 334.85 and Newtown's Hannah Weatherby was fifth with a score of 327.25.
In the 100 butterfly race, Immaculate-Bethel's Olivia Herbert was tops in 58.57, just beating out Brookfield's Anna Weinstein with a time of 58.84. Weston's Bradley came in third in 1:00.10, Brookfield's Sharkey was fourth in 1:00.61 and Bunnell's Rosemery Nieto and Weston's Linell tied for fifth in 1:01.10.
Weston's Franco took the top spot in the 100 free in 54.09. Pomperaug's Eleanor Labriola came in second in 54.82, Barlow's O'Deane placed third in 55.99, Masuk's Helmke was fourth in 56.21 and Newtown's Payton Bradley was fifth in 56.24.
In the 500 free, Gary gave Weston another first-place finish, clocking in with a time of 5:09.35. New Milford's Falder was second in 5:11.21, Immaculate-Bethel's Cate Carboni third in 5:22.00, Brookfield's Tolla fourth in 5:29.93 and Newtown's Seaver fifth in 5:30.09.
Masuk's 200 free relay of Eva Helmke, Zoe Helmke, Makenna Nicholas and Stoelzel was first in 1:41.35. Weston's team of Adele Kopis, Franco, Linell and Bradley was a close second in 1:41.74.
Weston's Franco was first in the 100 backstroke, making her final touch in 1:00.51. Newtown's Millard and Mahoney were second and third in 1:01.80 and 1:02.42. Immaculate-Bethel's McGovern was fourth in 1:02.97 and Weston's Madison Lowe came in fifth in 1:04.20.
In the 100 breaststroke race, Weston finished one-two as Nicole Linell clocked in at 1:06.68 and Kate Linell was second in 1:07.32. Immaculate-Bethel's Herbert was third in 1:07.54. Bunnell's Nieto came in fourth in 1:08.10 and Masuk's Nicholas placed fifth in 1:11.53.
Weston won the 400 free relay race in a time of 3:40.07.
Stratford High had some nice performances, including the 400 relay team of Leah Foito, Ceili Roberts, Ciara Roberts and Sarah Shein, which placed 10th in 4:37.02.
