Weston's boys' basketball team got back to its winning ways by defeating the New Milford Green Wave 63-52 on February 4.
The win comes on the heels of a tough loss to the Bunnell Bulldogs on January 31 and moves the Trojans to 6-1 in the conference and 8-6 overall. Weston has won seven of eight games overall.
Four Trojans scored in double digits: senior captains Evan Levine (14 points) and Jake Jones (13), along with junior forward Alex Olsen (12) and junior guard Josh Handel (10). They led a fast-paced balanced attack that kept New Milford’s 3-point shooters contained most of the game.
New Milford was led by freshman guard Jojo Wallace (21 points).
The contest opened with what promised to be a barn burner as New Milford hit four 3-pointers and the Trojans were relentless under the boards for a 19-17 lead after one quarter.
Weston’s defense smothered the Green Wave for the rest of the game as the Trojans opened a 10-point lead in the second and never looked back.
The Weston boys play again at home Friday night at 7 pm against a hot Pomperaug team that has won six in a row and is coming off a thrilling OT victory; read about that game here.
