Volleyball Teams Show It's Anyone's Game To Win

Pomperaug's Lindsey Abarzua hits the ball over the net.

Heading into the final week of the regular season there were five girls' volleyball teams with between nine and 11 wins in conference play, and two more — Pomperaug and Immaculate — with eight and seven wins, respectively

What's more, as the postseason fast approaches, it seems as if the seedings won't matter and the championship is truly up for grabs.

Seven-time champion Joel Barlow may lead the way with 11 victories and be a strong candidate to again come out on top, but the Falcons did lose in three sets to Weston for their lone SWC setback. The Falcons also dropped a nonconference contest to Masuk earlier in the fall before beating the Panthers in the rematch.

Both Masuk and Weston went into the final week with 10 victories. Masuk lost to Weston and Weston lost to Pomperaug and New Milford, then fell to Newtown in three sets in late October.

New Milford and Newtown both carried nine-win marks into the last week, and Pomperaug and Immaculate had eight and seven wins, respectively. Newtown has big wins over Weston and Immaculate but lost to Barlow in three and also dropped matches to New Milford and Masuk.
