Heading into action on November 16, the South-West Conference continued to be well-represented in the state playoffs.
In Class L girls' soccer, Joel Barlow and Pomperaug both reached the quarterfinal round. Barlow, the No. 26 seed, blanked No. 23 Daniel Hand 2-0 on November 14, earning a November 16 visit to No. 2 Suffield at noon. No. 3 Pomperaug shut out No. 14 Naugatuck 2-0 on November 14, earning a home tilt with No. 6 Guilford, which visits November 16 at 1 pm.
In Class M, No. 4 Weston (versus No. 12 Wolcott at 1 pm) and No. 7 Notre Dame (versus No. 18 Tolland at noon) earned home games on November 16. Weston had beaten No. 13 Woodland 3-1 and ND topped No. 10 Watertown 3-2 two days earlier.
On the boys' pitch, in Class L No. 12 Pomperaug and No. 15 Barlow were both knocked out on November 15. Class S school Immaculate advanced with a 2-0 quarterfinal-round win over No. 23 Old Lyme on November 15. The Mustangs will take on No. 3 Holy Cross in the November 19 semis.
On the volleyball courts, in Class M, No. 12 Weston beat No. 4 Law 3-0 in the November 15 quarterfinal and will take on top-seeded Seymour in the November 19 semis. In Class S, No. 10 Immaculate defeated No. 2 Aerospace 3-0 in the November 15 quarters, and will take on No. 3 Lyman Memorial in the November 19 semis. In Class LL No. 19 Newtown fell 3-0 at Westhill in the second round on November 14. In Class L, SWC finalist/ No. 6 Masuk and eight-time SWC champ/ No. 9 Barlow were also eliminated.
In field hockey play, top-seeded Newtown was beaten 1-0 by No. 9 Norwalk in the Class L quarters on November 15. In Class M, No. 14 Bethel earned its second 1-0 win of the tourney, shutting out No. 11 Suffield on November 14, and earning a spot in the semis. The Wildcats will take on No. 7 Daniel Hand on November 19. No. 4 Pomperaug fell 2-0 to No. 5 Branford in the quarterfinals. In Class S, No. 3 Immaculate defeated No. 6 North West Catholic 5-2 in the November 14 quarters. Immaculate will take on No. 2 North Branford in the semis on November 19 or 20.
