Overtime Is The Theme In State Semis

Regulation was not enough to decide multiple state tournament semifinal round games involving SWC teams on November 19.

In boys' soccer action, No. 3 Holy Cross bested No. 15 Immaculate 3-2 (4-1 in penalty kicks) to advance. Tristian Dinitale and Connor Sahl, off a Nicholas Lenz free kick, scored in regulation as the Mustangs erased a 2-0 deficit to force overtime. Neither team converted in a pair of 10-minute OT sessions. In penalty kicks, Dinitale scored for Immaculate.

In field hockey play, No. 2 North Branford edged No. 3 Immaculate 1-0 in OT of the Class S semis. In Class M, No. 14 Bethel fell 1-0 to No. 7 Daniel Hand, also in extra play.

    On the volleyball court, in Class M, No. 12 Weston fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-12) to No. 1 Seymour. In Class S, No. 3 Lyman Memorial beat No. 10 Immaculate 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18).

Immaculate's Tristian Dinitale controls the ball in state playoff action.
