Immaculate High's girls' soccer team may sneak into the conference tournament by the slimmest of margins and, if that's the case, can look back on a tie with visiting Newtown on October 18 as a key point earned along the way.
The Mustangs were held scoreless for most of the game but scored with only 3:50 remaining when Genesis Rodriguez deposited the ball during a scramble following a free kick. The Mustangs celebrated a 1-1 tie almost as if it were a win. It did, after all, feel like a victory of sorts.
Immaculate followed up the stalemate with an 8-1 win over Harding, a 5-4 victory over Westn and a 3-2 loss to Notre Dame-Fairfield to carry a conference mark of 5-4-3 and 18 points into the October 28 finale against Joel Barlow.
