Jake Rosati beat the buzzer to send the Masuk High boys' basketball team to a thrilling 56-54 win over the host Bassick Lions in the Bassick Hardwood Classic championship game on December 28.
The Panthers built a 42-34 lead through three quarters of play before the Lions went on a 10-0 run to take a two-point lead. Masuk went back in front on a Rosati basket down low and built a five-point advantage before the Lions again fought back.
Josh Wittenberger blocked a shot to thwart one Bassick chance late and a Bassick traveling violation gave the ball back to the Panthers again with just 11 seconds left, setting the stage for the clinching hoop.
Rosati scored 26 points to lead Masuk. Aren Cummings scored 10, Wittenberger dropped in seven, Carson Swift and Jacob Leisawitz added five, and Brandon Francisco tacked on three.
"I think our D was great," Masuk Coach Peter Szklarz said of his defense. "We made shots, it was a physical game. We played well. They're [Bassick] a good team."
