It's Thanksgiving Eve and Louie the bulldog has his picks for the big games. You may think he believes the SWC school with a mascot that is his likeness, the Bunnell Bulldogs, will come out on top. See video of his pick here:
Amazingly, Louie correctly got the New Fairfield-New Milford game right, with the correct score. (okay so that contest was played last night...). Who will stuff the competition, mash into the end zone the most, pour on the points, and feast with wins? Here are the predictions:
Tuesday, November 26
*New Fairfield 20, New Milford 6
The New Milford Green Wave has played well of late and been competitive this season. It should be a close game, but the Rebels can taste state playoffs like a sweet potato pie. New Fairfield is hungry for Class M berth and benefits from this win, then will wait and see how other games shake out before it's official but things are looking good for the Rebels.
Wednesday, November 27
*Bethel 34, Brookfield 31
It's a battle of 'Cats. The Brookfield Bobcats have been in some close games and should be competitive in searching for that elusive win. Bethel has home field advantage so we'll go with the Wildcats in a high-scoring nail-biter.
*Newtown 31, Masuk 26
Newtown is looking to go unbeaten and solidify a Class LL state playoff first-round home game, and Masuk is playing for its Class L playoff lives. Last year, NHS was unbeaten but the five-win Panthers made things very interesting in a 21-14 NHS win. This game tends to be a good one. Don't expect the Panthers to feast on Nighthawks before their turkey dinner, but they should at least make things interesting. Both teams have dominated their SWC counterparts for the most part, the lone exception being Masuk's 62-41 loss to Weston. NHS did not play Weston this fall. Masuk has a trio of losses, including a pair to tough nonconference teams.
Thanksgiving Day, November 28
*Bunnell 29, Stratford 23
How about a bunch of scoring and two-point conversion tries as the Bulldogs and Red Devils battle for city bragging rights?
*Notre Dame 28, Pomperaug 13
The Panthers are looking for their first win since defeating Bethel in week one. Notre Dame is 5-4 and has a chance for a winning season.
*Weston 48, Barlow 27
Barlow, with six wins, has had a very good season but Weston is looking to clinch a Class M state playoff berth, which seems inevitable, and also bolster its positioning. The Trojans (seeded fifth at 8-1 heading into Wednesday's action) have piled up points like an extra serving (or three) on the Turkey Day dinner plate.
