Boys' Basketball Roundup From January 28 Action

Weston Tops New Fairfield 58-51

The Trojans moved to 7-5 overall and  5-0 in league play Tuesday night defeating New Fairfield 58-51. A balanced attack led by scorers Josh Handel (13), Alex Olsen (13) and Jake Jones (9) overcame a strong first half by the Rebels. Tied entering the fourth quarter, Weston went on a 9-0 run and never relinquished the lead. The Trojans free throw shooting proved to be crucial as they shot 15-of-18 in the fourth quarter to ice the win. Weston boys square off against the Bunnell Bulldogs Friday at Weston — tip at 7 pm. Stats: Jake Jones 11 rebounds, 2 steals, 5 assists; Evan Levine 6 rebounds; Josh Handel 4 steals; Mickey Stack 6 assists.


Immaculate defeats ND 75-59

The Mustangs won their 11th straight and improved to 11-1 overall. Sean Guiry had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Joey Rios also recorded a double-double, compiling 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sebastian Parenti poured in 21 points and came away with 3 steals. Diego Echavarria had 13 points, 6 assists and 3 steals, and Mike Ianetta logged 7 points and 5 rebounds. The Mustangs visit Joel Barlow Saturday at 3 pm.


Newtown defeated Brookfield 61-56

Jack Petersen led Newtown with 22 points as the Nighthawks won their sixth straight. Tyson Mobley had 11 points. Riley Ward scored 9 and Jack Mulligan and Isaiah Williams both had 6.  Brookfield got 14 from Harry Albanese, 12 from Brian Rawlings, and 10 from Steve Cioffi.


Pomperaug defeats Bunnell 72-60

The Panthers won their fourth straight game as Dion Zhuta compiled 34 points.
