There are sure to be interesting games night in and night out, and there is no telling which battles will become instant classics, wild finishes, or surprising upsets ... but here are some SWC matchups to circle on the schedule as the season gets going (all games 7 pm unless noted):
Dec 27 - Immaculate vs Brookfield (at New Fairfield, 5 pm); Feb 18 - Immaculate at Brookfield: Immaculate went unbeaten in SWC games until the championship, but Brookfield was the only SWC team to beat the Mustangs, winning last season's December nonconference clash 47-45.
Jan 6 - Stratford at Bunnell; Feb 11 - Bunnell at Stratford: Last year, the teams split with the home squad coming out on top in a close one each time. Will one team grab city bragging rights or is another split in order? Both gyms will be rocking for these matchups as always.
Jan 9 - Masuk at New Milford; Jan 31 New Milford at Masuk: Offense or defense? New Milford beat Masuk 85-75 then nipped the Panthers 54-53 in their meetings last winter.
Jan 9 - Bethel at Brookfield; Feb 4 Brookfield at Bethel: Last year, Bethel had games decided by four or fewer points against Brookfield, Weston, New Milford and Pomperaug. This year, Bethel and Brookfield meet twice.
Jan 16 - Bunnell at Kolbe (Shehan Center): Kolbe beat Bunnell by one point in OT in the first meeting (at the Shehan Center) last year. Bunnell won by 10 the next time around.
Jan 16 - Weston at Masuk: Weston was very competitive in its defeats last year, including a four-point setback to the Masuk Panthers.
Jan 21 - New Fairfield at Pomperag: Too close to call? New Fairfield beat the Panthers by three last year. The teams went to OT the year before.
Jan 23 - Kolbe at Immaculate: Kolbe gave Immaculate a challenge before the Mustangs pulled out a 37-35 win in the lowest-scoring contest the teams played a year ago.
Jan 28 - Masuk at Barlow: Offense ruled a year ago. Masuk outscored Barlow 75-70 in their competitive clash.
Jan 28 - Notre Dame at Immaculate: Immaculate won both meetings last year, the first by just eight points.
Jan 31 - Brookfield at Notre Dame: Brookfield nipped the Lancers by a point last winter.
Jan 31 - Stratford at Newtown: Last year, the Red Devils pulled out a hard-fought OT victory at home.
Feb 6 - New Milford at Newtown: New Milford won last year's meeting in a 59-58 nail-biter.
Feb 7 - Immaculate at Bunnell: Rematch of last year's title game won by the Bulldogs. Immaculate won last year's regular-season clash.
Feb 7 - Pomperaug at Weston: The Pomperaug Panthers edged Weston by three last winter.
Feb 18 - Bunnell vs Barlow: Barlow Coach Pat Yerina came to the Falcons from the Bulldogs. Bunnell won a 79-73 contest at Barlow last winter. Yerina and Barlow will look to return the favor in Yerina's return to the Bunnell gymnasium.
Feb 25 - Bunnell at Newtown: Last year the teams played a wild one in the regular season finale (a 78-75 Bunnell win) then met in the next game, in the SWC playoffs. This is the last game on the regular slate again this winter.
