Joel Barlow's boys' basketball team won Stratford's holiday tournament by defeating the hosts 61-43 in the December 28 title game.
MVP Tom Richetelli scored 16 points, Carter Janki had 14 and All Tournament Team selection Clark Gilmore scored 12. Austin DeLuca contributed nine, Sebastian Hurlbut scored six and Arnold Wright added four in the win.
Stratford got 17 points from Jayquan Kirkland and 15 from All Tourney Team selection Joe August. Mike D'Aloia added seven.
"We knew we were in their gym and he had to come in and play a good game," said Barlow Coach Pat Yerina, adding that he was pleased with the start as his Falcons jumped out to a 21-13 lead after one quarter of play.
Yerina noted that players have roles and that his are doing their part. Jenke had 11 rebounds, Gilmore handed out nine assists and Richetelli continues his double-digit scoring effort for the 3-1 Falcons.
"They completely out-worked us, completely out-toughed us for the majority of the game tonight," Stratford Coach Tim Swaller said.
The Red Devils were coming off a thrilling 64-63 win over Trumbull in the tourney opener the night before. Kirkland had two clutch free throws in the waning seconds to propel the Red Devils into the title game.
August scored 24 and Kirkland had 15 in the triumph.
